Stephen Chambers, M.D.
Hand, Wrist & Elbow Specialist · Raleigh Orthopaedic
Serving Raleigh, Cary, Holly Springs, and Wake Forest, NC — Dr. Chambers brings fellowship-trained expertise in hand and upper extremity surgery to Wake County, with a commitment to seeing every patient personally and promptly.
A Hand Surgeon Who Puts Patients First
Dr. Stephen Chambers is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing exclusively in conditions of the hand, wrist, and elbow. He practices with Raleigh Orthopaedic — Wake County's oldest and most experienced orthopedic group, serving the Triangle region since 1919.
Dr. Chambers trained at some of the most respected institutions in the country. After earning his undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Georgia Tech, he attended Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, GA. He then completed his orthopedic residency at the legendary Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN — one of the premier orthopedic training programs in the United States — before going on to complete a dedicated Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.
This advanced, subspecialized training means patients who see Dr. Chambers receive care from a surgeon who has devoted his entire practice to the hand, wrist, and elbow. He stays current with the latest surgical techniques and evidence-based treatments, and has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and delivered presentations at national conferences.
A Different Kind of Practice
When you have an appointment with Dr. Chambers, you see Dr. Chambers — not a physician extender or mid-level provider. He believes your time is as valuable as his, and his team takes pride in running an efficient, on-time clinic schedule. If you have an urgent injury, Dr. Chambers will make time to see you the next business day.
Outside the operating room, Dr. Chambers is actively involved in his church and community, enjoys golf, and loves exploring North Carolina with his wife and their dog.

A subspecialist's precision combined with a primary care doctor's personal attention — that's the standard Dr. Chambers holds himself to at every visit.
Subspecialized Focus
Orthopedics has evolved through sub-specialization. Dr. Chambers focuses solely on the hand, wrist, and elbow — mastering his craft to deliver better outcomes than a general orthopedic surgeon can offer.

Every appointment is with Dr. Chambers directly — not a PA or NP. He believes patients deserve to see the specialist they came to see, every time.
Evidence-Based Care
Dr. Chambers stays current with the latest research and surgical advances. His treatments are rooted in evidence, not habit — so you receive care that reflects what actually works.
